THE KSATRIA SENI AWARD

The Ksatria Seni Award, founded by Nyoman Rudana, is awarded to individuals as well as organizations for their merits regarding their sincere and complete devotion to their working and thinking in the fight for execution, development and vision of culture.

The idea of the form of the prize is based on the story of Ramayana. Here, Rama – in his love to Sita, is represented with his arrow in his eternal love to all human beings as they are children  of the earth Ibu Pertiwi ( Mother Earth ), loving the unity of peace and prosperity, based on tolerance Tat Wam Asi and the liberation of the secular Moksa Tam Jagat Dhitam.

In the both oriental and occidental legends, fables and literary works, arrows signified victory of the good over the bad or love and passion over hatred. The proof of Rama’s eternal devotion to his wife Sinta in Ramayana epic or Cupido’s arrow  of love shooting into heart in western mythology, as well as Kahlil Gibran’s freedom in the Prophet would show best the passion of humanity and the liberation of creativity which constantly appearing in our artists’ works during the decades of their creative life.

The name Ksatria is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning knight or, in linguistic sense, a quality of gallantry or nobleness. Therefore, the award presentation could be seen as noblelizing our Knights of The Art, recognizing special individuals who have devoted their minds, passion, soul and life to conceive, develop and envision their culture within this vast area of humanity.

The idea of honoring all the receivers was conceived by me, through delicate process that required intense observation, analysis by international ( Bali based ) art curators and delicate consideration o Museum Rudana. This event marks the commitment of Museum Rudana in its role to promote the art of Indonesia, especially of Bali and to channel this tremendous creativity of our line and well established artists to art scenes around the globe.

MUSEUM RUDANA WELCOMED THE 3RD MILLENIUM BY PRESENTED :

The 1st KSATRIA SENI AWARD  2000 & BLESSING CEREMONY OF MUSEUM RUDANA’S 4TH ANNIVERSARY, 26 DECEMBER 2000

This was a special event for Museum Rudana, for we celebrated three events all at once : Welcoming The 3rd Millenium, the 4th Anniversary of Museum Rudana, and most of all, The 1st Ksatria Seni Award.

The 1st Ksatria Seni Award  trophy was designed by French artist Sylvius. In The 1st Ksatria Seni Award trophy was designed by French artist Sylvius, whom also acted as The God Siwa,  presented the Ksatria Seni arrow to me. This arrow symbolized  a revelation I received from God  Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa to create this award and it was my duty to pass it on to other human being who have been dedicated to the  art and culture in Indonesia and beyond.

I received the silver arrow from the God Siwa, played by Sylvius, a French artist.

Siwa is a name of one  three Dewas in Balinese Hindu Tri Murti concept.  Two other dewas are Brahma the life creator and Wisnu the life preserver Tri Murti is symbolizing Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, The Almighty God. Dewa Siwa is also known as ‘the destroyer’ because of his spiritual function  to destroy negativity in the world. He purifies the world through the destruction of all that is negative. According to Balinese Hinduism, Siwa prepares one for reincarnation and hopefully a better life, if one has lead an exemplary life. But he will punish whom karmas (actions) have been evil.
