THE KSATRIA SENI AWARD

The Ksatria Seni Award, founded by Nyoman Rudana, is awarded to individuals as well as organizations for their merits regarding their sincere and complete devotion to their working and thinking in the fight for execution, development and vision of culture.

The idea of the form of the prize is based on the story of Ramayana. Here, Rama – in his love to Sita, is represented with his arrow in his eternal love to all human beings as they are children  of the earth Ibu Pertiwi ( Mother Earth ), loving the unity of peace and prosperity, based on tolerance Tat Wam Asi and the liberation of the secular Moksa Tam Jagat Dhitam.

In the both oriental and occidental legends, fables and literary works, arrows signified victory of the good over the bad or love and passion over hatred. The proof of Rama’s eternal devotion to his wife Sinta in Ramayana epic or Cupido’s arrow  of love shooting into heart in western mythology, as well as Kahlil Gibran’s freedom in the Prophet would show best the passion of humanity and the liberation of creativity which constantly appearing in our artists’ works during the decades of their creative life.

The name Ksatria is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning knight or, in linguistic sense, a quality of gallantry or nobleness. Therefore, the award presentation could be seen as noblelizing our Knights of The Art, recognizing special individuals who have devoted their minds, passion, soul and life to conceive, develop and envision their culture within this vast area of humanity.

The idea of honoring all the receivers was conceived by me, through delicate process that required intense observation, analysis by international ( Bali based ) art curators and delicate consideration o Museum Rudana. This event marks the commitment of Museum Rudana in its role to promote the art of Indonesia, especially of Bali and to channel this tremendous creativity of our line and well established artists to art scenes around the globe.

MUSEUM RUDANA WELCOMED THE 3RD MILLENIUM BY PRESENTED :

The 1st KSATRIA SENI AWARD  2000 & BLESSING CEREMONY OF MUSEUM RUDANA’S 4TH ANNIVERSARY, 26 DECEMBER 2000

This was a special event for Museum Rudana, for we celebrated three events all at once : Welcoming The 3rd Millenium, the 4th Anniversary of Museum Rudana, and most of all, The 1st Ksatria Seni Award.

The 1st Ksatria Seni Award  trophy was designed by French artist Sylvius. In The 1st Ksatria Seni Award trophy was designed by French artist Sylvius, whom also acted as The God Siwa,  presented the Ksatria Seni arrow to me. This arrow symbolized  a revelation I received from God  Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa to create this award and it was my duty to pass it on to other human being who have been dedicated to the  art and culture in Indonesia and beyond.

I received the silver arrow from the God Siwa, played by Sylvius, a French artist.

Siwa is a name of one  three Dewas in Balinese Hindu Tri Murti concept.  Two other dewas are Brahma the life creator and Wisnu the life preserver Tri Murti is symbolizing Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, The Almighty God. Dewa Siwa is also known as ‘the destroyer’ because of his spiritual function  to destroy negativity in the world. He purifies the world through the destruction of all that is negative. According to Balinese Hinduism, Siwa prepares one for reincarnation and hopefully a better life, if one has lead an exemplary life. But he will punish whom karmas (actions) have been evil.

To Mark its 8th Anniversary, MUSEUM RUDANA Presented :

The 2nd KSATRIA SENI AWARD 2004

To mark its 8th Anniversary,

Museum Rudana presented The Ksatria Seni Award 2004. The Prize  was remodeled by Runi Palar and manufactured by  Runa Jewelry. It is presented on a base made of bronze, which was inspired by the renowed artist from Kuwait, Jafar Islah and consists of a trophy in the form of silver arrow with inlay of gold and yellow sapphire symbolizing the “dazzling streak of light flashing through the air”.  It represented the power of beauty  entering hearts of all people.

The 2nd Ksatria Seni Award 2004 awarded to  four senior artists : the Indonesia based Srihadi Soedarsono, I Nyoman Gunarsa, and Made Wianta and the Singaporean based artist Kumari Nahappan whose artistic creations have not develop our understanding of the arts, but also help us to see humanity through different perspective.

The idea of honoring the above senior Indonesian and Singaporean artists was conceived by me. According to the jury, the Ksatria Seni Award 2004 was given to nominees in respect to their contribution to the advancement of the universal culture of beauty and harmony next for their promotion of Indonesia Visual arts nationally and internationally.

Four juries involved judging the nominees were myself, Mrs. Siti Farida Srihadi, whos is the wife of Srhadi Soedarsono, prof. Dr. I Wayan Rai from STSI Denpasar Indonesian College of Art 0 and DR. Jean Couteau, a French multilingual writer, art critic and columnist  resided in Bali.

The philosophy behind the anniversary was based on the number of 8 that symbolized infinity. To Museum Rudana, the number represents partnership in the eternal quest for perfection in art creation and the transfer of energy through the works of art with purpose beyond the visual values. The anniversary epitomized the rebirth of Museum Rudana’s vision to relentlessly seek, preserve and develop culture for mankind in peace.

SENATOR NYOMAN RUDANA MET THE HOUSE OF LORDS 28 July 2008

The House of Lords is the second house of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is also commonly referred to as “the Lords”. The Parliament comprises the Sovereign, the House of Commons  (which is the lower house of Parliament and referred to as “the Commons”), and the Lords. Membership of the House of Lords was once a right of birth to hereditary peers, but following a series of reforms the House now consists almost entirely of appointed members. Its office is in The Palace of Westminster, London.

I and other DPD members had a meeting with The House of Lords the day after we finished the workshop at Wroxton College. We met Lord Faulkner of Worcester, The Deputy  and Speaker of The House.of Lords.

I presented  a book of Treasure of Bali to Lord Faukkner..

SENATOR NYOMAN RUDANA VISITED AFFORESTATION PROJECT IN CENTRAL KALIMANTAN, 31 May 2008

I joined my fellow DPD member Hamdhani from Central Kalimantan,  flew to Central Kalimantan to visit an afforestation program of Korindo, a South Korea group of companies.

I, Hamdhani and Minister of Forestry MS. Kaban

Afforestation or tree planting has been consistently pursued by Korindo to develop timber business, preserve the tropical forest cover and protect global environment. Their activities in timber plantations are based on the philosophy of placing a great emphasis on enviromental proctection, human resources development and responsibility in and around forest areas.

This event was attended by The Indonesian Minister of Forestry Mr. M.S. Kaban and South Korea Minister of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Mr. Chung Un-chun.

The South Korea Minister of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on my right side.

I, along with the Ministers and Mr. Hamdhani, did a tree planting, as a symbol to our commitment to preserve the earth from the effect of global warming, where we all know that forest plays a major role for carbon sequestration to avoid global warming. For myself, preserving the nature is inline with Balinese philosophy Trihita Karana, which is harmonizing the relationship between God and human beings, human beings with their fellowmen, and human beings with their environment.
